Each month, Deputy Dave Winder from the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department visits all of our elementary classrooms to present the T.E.A.M. (Teaching, Educating, And Mentoring) School Liaison Program. He talks to students about understanding the court system, 9-1-1, safety, responsible internet use, and more! This month, he had an extra special guest...one of the Calhoun County 9-1-1 Dispatchers! Even more exciting for our Tekonsha students, it was Abbey Stimer, a 2005 graduate of Tekonsha High School!!!
Abbey did an excellent job of sharing about her job as a dispatcher and explaining all about how 9-1-1 works. She emphasized the importance of all students knowing their address, explaining that the dispatchers need to know where to send help when someone calls. She encouraged all students to practice their address. She also shared with some classes what the dispatcher screens look like when someone calls and even what her work building looks like. Students were all provided with a gift bag from the dispatchers containing an activity book, pencil, bookmark, and a sticker to help students remember about 9-1-1. We love the time that our county resource officers spend to help educate our kids! Thank you Abbey and Deputy Dave!
