Tekonsha Elementary Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade had the opportunity to go to Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater on Monday, March 16th to watch a program "Harriet Tubman: Straight Up Outta the Underground." This program was a 45 minute one-woman, interactive storytelling experience for local elementary students.
Our students learn about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad with our 3rd grade Social Studies curriculum. Our 4th graders also have used stories about Harriet Tubman in writing, and our 5th graders also did a small unit on this to prepare for the program. We are excited that our students had this opportunity to extend their learning through this performance.
This program was offered to area schools as part of the Tibbits Young Audiences School Programming and made possible through financial support from the Smith Memorial Concert, Lynn Wernet, and the Philip & Sarah Rosenberg Family Trust.
