Performing Arts

We’re not all about sports here at Tekonsha Community Schools. We believe that the opportunity to be well rounded is the best gift we can offer our students. From the elementary up through the high school, Tekonsha students get to embrace their inner diva with chances to perform in front of an audience. Tekonsha offers classes in band, choir, and elementary music.

Concert Band Program (5th, 6th, 7/8, 9-12 grades)

This performance-oriented band program includes participation in multiple concert appearances. Through participation in ensemble performances, students build self-confidence and the concept of teamwork. Through group performance, individual music skills are strengthened.  Students enrolled in band develop elements of musicianship including tone production, technical skills, intonation, music reading skills, listening skills, and analyzing music. Time outside of the school day may be scheduled for rehearsals and performances. A limited number of public performances will serve as a culmination of daily rehearsal and musical goals. Students are required to participate in performance opportunities outside of the school day that support and extend learning in the classroom.

Tekonsha’s Got Talent

Spring of each year, Tekonsha Elementary School students show their stuff at Tekonsha’s Got Talent! This is a variety show in which students from all grades get the opportunity to work with adults on performing techniques, microphone skills, and singing in front of a real audience. So if your student likes to sing, this is the show.

Cabaret

This is a student led production hosted by the Student Council. All of our Jr/Sr High School students are welcome to audition for Cabaret, a spring variety show with funny hosts, skits, and more! Students often begin practicing for Cabaret months in advance just to secure a spot in the program.

Literature in Motion

More than a drama class, Literature in Motion offers students an opportunity to read great works ignored in other classes and explore the purpose behind civilization’s oldest form of literature. Students read plays ranging from the 18th century to modern times and engage in lessons on theater history. This class also offers the chance to perform both in the autumn and spring, often including a haunted house and skits for Cabaret. Students also perform in plays and learn script-writing skills. Set building, stage-managing, and prop construction are part of our everyday culture. The creative opportunities are unlimited.
