The 2019-2020 school year will be Jeff Kawaski's seventh year as Superintendent and 6-12 principal for our school district. Jeff grew up in Mt. Pleasant, MI and attended the local high school. Upon graduation he continued his education at Central Michigan University. While at C.M.U. he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education and his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration.
Mr. Kawaski brings a wealth of administrative experience to Tekonsha. During his career, he has served as an assistant principal/athletic director, principal, and superintendent. In his spare time he also helped coach baseball at Decatur High School where he shared a state championship with his two sons, J.T. and Joby, in 2012.
In his relatively short time in Tekonsha the entire district has shown positive growth. In the elementary school there are no longer any “split grade levels” or shared teachers. This was accomplished by adding a teacher in the fall of 2014. In the 6-12 building a Math/Spanish teacher was hired in the fall of 2014 replacing the need for online foreign language. And also during 2014-15, special emphasis was placed on the reorganization and placement of highly qualified teachers throughout our district. According to Kawaski, “Tekonsha Community Schools has an outstanding group of highly qualified teachers throughout our school district!”
With class sizes averaging approximately 20 students per class, Tekonsha Community Schools offers our students special attention and individualized instruction. Our district may be small in numbers but big in opportunities in all areas of the educational process. Students have the opportunity to a diverse and well-rounded education from band and music, to the Arts and Sciences, to a wide variety of interscholastic opportunities. And a genuinely caring teaching staff!
