Student of the Month

Tekonsha Community Schools is pleased to announce five individuals as “Students of the Month” for January, 2012.

Katlyn Emmel is 16 years old and is a Sophomore. Deborah & Step Dad Howard Upston Jr and John Emmel Jr. are her parents. Grandparents are Shirley & Kenneth Jefferies of Burlington, Peg Emmel of Union City, and Madilyn & Howard Upston of Tekonsha. Heather Jefferies, Kristy Nickles, Britni & Debbie Upston are her sister and step sisters, Mike Emmel and Shaun Upston are her half brother and step brother. Mrs. Cassandra Gaborik’s psychology class is Katlyn’s favorite class because it is really fun and interesting and because the class gets to do a lot of hands on things. Her favorite activities that she likes to do are cheerleading and Volleyball. In her spare time she likes to text and spending time with her boy friend and friends. She says that because she came from a small school she is glad that Tekonsha is a small school also.

Nathan Dadow is a Freshman and is 15 years old. He is the son of Kathy Dadow of Tekonsha and Marc Dadow of Ceresco. His grandparents are Margaret VanHoose and Carol Dadow both of Tekonsha. Nathan has one brother, Travis Dadow along with sister Shayna Dadow. Mrs. Cassandra Gaborik’s psychology class is the class that he finds the most interesting and he says that he is pretty good at it. He likes playing basketball, going hunting, skateboarding, listening to music and BMXing. Nathan likes attending Tekonsha schools because like other student you get to know everyone and it is easier to get more one on one time with Teachers.

She is Rebekah Schreur; she is 15 years old and in the 8^th grade. Jim & Sandy Schreur are her parents. Rebekah’s grandparents are David & Gert Schreur of Byron Center, MI and John & Arlene Oosterhouse of Kentwood, Mi. Rebekah comes from a large family being 1 of six children. Her sisters are Bethany, Abigail, Rachel and Elizabeth and brother Benjamin. Her favorite class would have to be Mr. Jenkins gym class because she likes to run and play basketball. In her spare time she likes being with her sisters and working on the farm. Her favorite things to do are to ride horses, ride her bike, taking walks, and participating in the Calhoun County 4-H fair with her goats and crafts. People are nice to me and everyone is willing to help me with my work are two of the reasons that Rebekah likes attending Tekonsha Schools.  

Erin Apel is in Mrs. Gaglio’s 6^th grade class and is 11 years old. CJ & Annette Apel are her parents, Maxine Katz of Tekonsha and Jim & MaryLou Huss of Toledo, Ohio are her grandparents. Some of the things that she enjoys doing are Science class, playing softball, basketball, swimming and playing the drums. When asked what things do you like about going to Tekonsha Erin replied “You know everybody, from the older kids to the younger kids and we are all nice to each other.

Alyssa Robinson is in Mrs. Sayles’ 5^th grade class and is 11 years old. Deanna Robinson and Brian Robinson are her parents. Grandma & Grandpa are William & Darlene Woodham. She has one sister Sierra Miller and two brothers Matthew and Tristin. Her gym class is her favorite class because you can run and play different physical games. She likes to read, listen to music, and dance. Some of the activities that she likes to do are to play basketball, softball, football, and volleyball. Because it is peaceful, quiet and everyone knows each other is why she likes attending Tekonsha schools.

Teachers recognize students each month for academic improvement, citizenship, concern for others, school spirit, and cooperation.
